Congrats to Jiarui Liu for a Science and Geology ‘Double Feature’

Please join us in congratulating our adjunct postdoctoral fellow (and former graduate student), Jiarui Liu, who has been making big waves over the past two months!

Today, his first-authored Science article, “Natural 15N15N abundances constrain fixed nitrogen loss,” was published. This work is part of Jiarui’s new research using 15N15N as a novel marker to decipher nitrogen cycling processes in aquatic environments.

And that is not all. Just in August, Jiarui had another article accepted in Geology, “Clumped isotopes of methane constrain the global magnitude of microbial methane oxidation in wetlands.” A photo from his study, an aerial view of the UC Carpinteria Salt Marsh Reserve, will be featured on the cover of Geology when the print issue comes out.

Jiarui’s work is a great example of how isotopologues of biologically relevant molecules can be used to track and quantify biological processes in natural environments.

Congratulations, Jiarui, on these fantastic accomplishments!
