 Postdoctoral Research Project Description

I am currently a Zuckerman STEM postdoctoral fellow at the University of Haifa as well as a Project Scientist at UCLA. I study the molecular mechanisms of biomineralization by marine organisms with most of my focus on stony corals. My research uses both modern and fossil specimens, from which I extract proteins for LC-MS/MS sequencing and computational analysis. My previous NSF postdoctoral fellowship research produced the oldest invertebrate skeletal proteome to date, sequencing six proteins from a Pleistocene coral from Florida. My current research includes modern and fossil fish otolith (ear bone) proteomics and microgeochemistry, stony coral early life stage transcriptomics and proteomics, and subcellular localization of skeletal proteins.
